You’re lyin’ with your gold chain on
cigar hangin’ from your lips, I say
“Hon,
You never looked so beautiful
as you do now my man.”
(From Lana Del Rey’s “Off to the Races,” aka Ruth’s anthem haha)
As soon as I heard that line, I saw this in my head and knew I had to draw it. Ruth has an almost(?) creepy admiration for her love, and expresses it in stares and awkward sayings just like this. :P
Sometimes I wonder if Virgil worries what he got himself into lol.

An animated doodle of a sinawali drill for Eskrima, Filipino martial arts. This is a diagram simply of the hand motions without the rattan sticks, though you can play without weapons as a sort of game of ‘patty cake’ too. :D The poses with the little dashy ‘pow’ effects are where you’re supposed to hit the other person’s hands/sticks.
I’m currently taking a class in martial arts, and Eskrima is one of the disciplines we’re learning - so I made this as a reference for myself, the members of my group, and anyone else interested. I put up a couple different speeds to practice at. I hope this can prove useful!
Flashy gif exercise variant :D
Exercise 4: Actually figuring out what I’m doing in flash
I was working on something more complicated, but with just diving into flash after what, 3 years? since I’d used it, I was having a few technical difficulties. Luckily, the Bitey Academy saved me lol. Seriously, click that link! The first tutorial is well-written, conversational, informative, and very very helpful for getting you started, learning shortcuts and the workflow. And you can make something like this! It has you make an animated gif of an electricity ball, and welp, there she is. Now onto bigger and better things.
Birthday present for Nisse! of her character Oblivion - who is convinced that he’s a woman, and is set on controlling the world and looking fabulous while doing so, to put it shortly. I have been informed that for drawing this, I get to live in his good graces in his new world order. XD
This was done in fluorescent acrylic paint and ink on illustration board, and it was… a challenge to work with some different materials than I usually do. It’s been a long time since I’ve done some traditional work, but I think the effect in the end was worth it.
Because this needed to happen, and I’ve been meaning to make it for almost a year. :D
IT HAD TO BE DONE.
Happy Easter. :B
(Virgil belongs to Reach )
Oh man this took so many hours. o_o
Shift in weight. Surprisingly hard to do. Had a lot of fun with the follow-through animation, but had a hard time getting the rhythm of the hips right. Glad I finally saw it though! I’m pretty dang happy with this.
Also, new character I’m brainstorming - this gave me a chance to draw her. Also because I wanted to draw some bodacious hips. :P
Exercise/tutorial #2 - the good ol’ bouncing ball meets Easytoon.
since I’m constantly having trouble with the most elaborate of things, it’s back to basics, seriously. At first I didn’t really want to, but once I got into it, this was actually super fun. The ball is really cartoony/squishy here, so not very realistic, but really fun to do. I was using Richard William’s Animator’s Survival Kit book for reference on timing and squash and stretch. More exercises from this book are on the way!
Also, learned how to use Easytoon! only on PC, but it’s suuuper easy to use. It’s SO EASY to preview what you’re doing, which is a lot harder with on-paper animation, and adding in frames and adjusting the timing is a snap. it’s only black and white, but it saves into gifs, easy peasy. :D I think I’m going to use this for practicing to save myself some paper.
You can get Easytoon here for free! http://www.superfundungeonrun.com/easytoon/
Went to the park today after work to chill, and ended up drawing a bridge-ish thing.
Water goes down the stairs between the lake uphill from the one below, I believe. I wish I knew how old it was (I think early 1900’s, the lakes were created sometime after 1914)
I really should do more architectural stuff, I like it.
I did another photo shoot with Seir with my plague doctor costume. We got a bit of snow, so it was back to the Anderson Building to take some night shots.
This is only a sample of the photos taken. If you want to see the whole set, go Here!
Surprise nighttime snow shoot! I learned so much about shooting out in the snow, and at night - mostly it was trying to get enough light caught, everything focused, and dealing with a heavy camera in the cold. Did you know that a telephoto lens fogs in cold weather? We didn’t! haha. It was a great time though, and so worth it. I’m so glad that the shots turned out as well as they did! Like movie shots, some of them. Go check out the whole set Reach edited, you will not be disappointed! :D
In an entirely different vein, here’s a glimpse of something I’m working on. Doing a tiiiny little bit of lipsynch/animating to audio practice. Results in hopefully about a week! D: Fingers crosssed
“Because I’m crazy, baby I need you to come here and save me
I’m your little scarlet, starlet singing in the garden
Kiss me on my open mouth”
Just a reeally fast little doodle because of MUSIC!! haha. I like how I did some of the hair, but not sure if everything else is right. More about the expression though here.
